The club recognised that hard tar Macadam courts were not ideal for all the players using them – both members and Play&Play visitors. The club did its research and concluded that artificial clay would be much better. So, in November 2024 all four courts were resurfaced using this material. Their attractive colour looks fabulous!
They have many benefits too:
- The courts dry quicker during and after rain. Especially important as our weather gets wetter. This makes them available for play much longer.
- They are softer with less wear and tear on both hips and knees. For adults that is great. For children if they fall, less damage is done. Also, both balls and shoes last longer. A real money saver!
- Rallies tend to be longer making playing tennis far more enjoyable. This is also very important for both adults just taking up the sport and minis and juniors.

Sliding
Many top-ranking players have adopted this technique, recognising that it’s more efficient than taking lots of small steps. It’s now being taken up by more and more players. Our new court surfaces are ideal. Like nearly everything in life this technique has pros and cons. Before you consider taking this approach up you should discuss it with one of our coaching team; Toby, Dan and Emma to insure its right for you.
